Too low, that's 4.65 a sqft..:no:I just itemized an invoice for a 2500 sq ft home, CAC 200 amp OH AL service, code w/ fan boxes in bedrooms - $11,630.
Just seems too cheap to me.
I'm at $50 points for SPs and GP receptacles, upward for GFCI protected, 3 ways, lights, etc.You are right. It is too cheap. Quit putting $20 an hour into your labor calc's.
I think the wide open 1st fl design eliminates many receptacles and wiring.Too low,that's 4.65 a sqft..
Don't forget all the AFCI breakers , And all the GFCI's.
Welcome to 1982 Doc. I have been more than double that for decades.I'm at $50 points for SPs and GP receptacles, upward for GFCI protected, 3 ways, lights, etc.
I have guys competing against me charging $33 a point, and honestly, his work is cleaning than mine . The guy squares all his wiring and takes pride iin his panels.Welcome to 1982 Doc. I have been more than double that for decades.
This baffles me. You figure out how much you will charge at invoice time?I just itemized an invoice for a 2500 sq ft home, CAC 200 amp OH AL service, code w/ fan boxes in bedrooms - $11,630.

GC/Builder uses open sheet to figure rough cost to wire house + some leeway . I itemize everything at finish of rough and bill out. Why? Things always change during the rough, normally the HO arrives and wants two outlets side to side of bed, TV outlets, additional outlets, walls moved, lights added, etc. So I ballpark it , then dead on balls bill it at the end of stage 1.This baffles me. You figure out how much you will charge at invoice time?
So how did your actual compare to your budget? Point pricing isn't everything. If it's a very simple house, maybe you're okay. Complicated architecture can be a real time eater. Still, it seems too cheap.GC/Builder uses open sheet to figure rough cost to wire house + some leeway . I itemize everything at finish of rough and bill out. Why? It's a real easy house, I wired all the second floor receptacles including HRs with 300' of 14/2.So how did your actual compare to your budget? Point pricing isn't everything. We as electricians are as far from the garbage carting industry as can be. I've tried discussions like that with other ECs and their fears were Feds and RICO. I've pondered bid rigging, and every way to make this trade money, those around me have no balls. It's time for colusion . Get ahold of the other ec, and work up higher numbers.
That's awesome. :thumbup:It's a real easy house, I wired all the second floor receptacles including HRs with 300' of 14/2.
Used 1 1/2 rolls of 12/2 for all the 1st fl receptacles and all 12/2 HRs.
Sounds to me like you did okay. It's a real easy house, I wired all the second floor receptacles including HRs with 300' of 14/2.
Used 1 1/2 rolls of 12/2 for all the 1st fl receptacles and all 12/2 HRs. TGI drilling with cordless, basement sillplates to staple on. A 3 day 1 man rough.
Those are good fears, but if we all used "the book" the way car repair shops do, how could they prosecute? We as electricians are as far from the garbage carting industry as can be. All the Addons made the money, hihats, customer supplied media wire run out. He has a friend from the east end that mapped it all out on print, supplied all the wire, it was a no brainer drill and run, 6 hrs at $2k to rough. His guy will terminate.Sounds to me like you did okay.
Those under the floor angles really pay off. I used to be a up and over guy until I realized how much wire I wasted. The walls always have too many quadruple stacked beams to drill thru, the TGIs drill in about 30 seconds. That's awesome.
If everyone here agrees that $4.65/sq. ft is too cheap, I'd be absolutely embarrassed to tell anyone what price I used to get for new homes. Just barely enough to make it to the next one. I could wire a house for that price and make some good money. Different areas I guess. That's way too cheap. Another reason to stay away from new construction.
