As a technician or engineer? Technicians make 40k to 45k a year. Well below what the opportunities are as an electrician. Engineers do much better.
Electrician and avionics technician are really two totally different fields with different opportunities.
If you choose a career in avionics, get on with a major manufacturer (like Garmin or Avidyne), a major aircraft producer such as Boeing, Airbus, Gulfstream or get on with a major airline.
Fierce competition resulting in low profit margins in general aviation avionics shops make for a poor career choice. Career advancement opportunities and compensation packages are just not good in that market.
Do your homework and research the opportunities in both fields.
