They were still teaching us in school here 5 years ago to do O/L contact on neural side of coil.

15 years ago they were teaching us its an unsafe practice, even the 50+ yo stuff where i work the OL are on the line side only

There is nothing unsafe about having the overloads on the neutral side of a contractor as long as the overloads are in the same cabinet. Its unsafe to have controls wired on the neutral side in a remote location. If you can honestly short the jumper between the coil and the overloads to ground you probably have a much bigger problem.
