Do quads exist that will fit, legally or otherwise, in a Sylvania box?

Not even close to being true. I'm sure what you meant was "if a standard double pole of brand x will fit in the rejection slots of a load center , then a quad of that same brand x will fit there. " Otherwise , it won't fit, and boy oh boy do I hate running across the ones where the ass clown broke the rejection bar out with his hammer and screw driver, because that always leads to burnt up bus stabs given enough time.

why would you mention modifying the breaker or panel when i did not ?
i thought it would be self evident that i meant "fit" like the original breaker for that panel

but i do agree that neither should be modified, because of the buss rating

Because when you tell somebody that , it is clearly wrong. A regular two pole 20 amp breaker for instance will fit anywhere in the panel where there is two spaces available. A quad won't fit any two spaces available unless they are notched designed for acceptance of twin or quad breakers. Re read your original post with this in mind.

[OP] Cool. That fits with my observation that "deep throat" quads don't seem to exist.

I guess I was wondering if anyone knows if Sylvania panels, which were designed for their own weird type of twin breaker, have the modern kind of notch in the stabs. My memory fails, and my data for this job is photos with breakers in.
I have a drawer full of non-ctl BR quads 🤷‍♂️
Those closest thing for Sylvania panels would be Eaton BR breakers they are also listed for Challenger & Sylvania became Challenger, another option is Eaton CL they are UL classified for most makes.
I saw something online recently about the sylvania L/R twin breaker design, and failures, and can't find it now. These are NOT the notorious Zinsco problem, I don't think. I want to send a link to a customer. Any thoughts where that might have been?
