Im trying to add a fan in my room but wen i took the light down to put the fan up i seen this.

Im wondering what i should do because there is no box i have never seen this befor. If anyone can help that would be great.

Could be an old gas pipe for a gas light...it was fairly common to use the pipe threads to support a fixture bracket when houses where degassified and electrified. Is there a box?

if the pipe is in good shape and anchored well, use it! but put in a wood or whatever support, just in case!

I was goin knock out the middle of the box and try to use the threads to hold the box

If I am hanging a fan I always cut out the old gas line and use an old work fan box...it's also nice to have some heatshrink for the old wire.
