The pictures show panels recently completed or panel cans mounted ready for pulls. Special thanks to Derek Pasch, Staffing Specialist at Meisner Electric in Delray Beach, FL for the pictures. The purple B leg in the 480 disconnect picture is a color code I have not observed before.

I recently hired an electrician from Florida. He found the B,O,Y for our 480 to be strange. In Florida they use B,P,Y. I forgot what the reason behind it was but something to do with the local power companys using the B,O,Y for something.

I know the NEC requires orange for the high leg of a 4-wire delta. We do use B O Y colors for 277/480 3 ph here. I've never seen purple used.

Purple, to me, is for switch loops or travelers. I'm curious to know what the purple pase idea is.

Around me, I see Red, Yellow, Blue for 120/208 quite a bit. I still havn't figured that one out.

Red,yel, blue; thats a first for me.

BOY is what I like, just because a panel looks "pretty" with those colors, but...

When they made the code change that orange signifies the high leg, lots of guys went to purple for 'B' phase.
Then of course the engineers got wind of this BPY and said that in the color code of standards yellow comes before purple,
So we do everything BYP, which totally screws up the yellow phase, but I still say "why didn't they just make purple the high leg?"
