What do you guys do about furniture and other obstacles in your way preventing you from doing your job? Do you try to move things yourself or?

This comes up quite frequently for me. The last job I had to access an outlet behind this big ass bed fit for a king and queen the headboard was blocking it.

I told them my insurance doesn't cover moving furniture which I wasn't sure about but it sounded good:laughing: We ended up not needing to move it anyway.

Do you have limits on what you move if anything?

In all my estimates I state that:

All obstructions must be moved out of the way as not to cause delay of work before the process of installation. We did not include moving any obstruction to conduct our work in our price.

Usually if it's something small I don't care and will move it myself, carefully. But if it's something fragile or big I tell the homeowner I need them to move it.

If its just one item, and Im reasonably sure I can move it with out damaging anything, Ill do it.

If I cant, Ill tell the customer Im not comfortable moving the item/items by myself. Most of the time the customer will help, or get their teenaged sons to do it, lol.

We'll move stuff out of the way within reason. Sometimes I'll take a picture before I start so everything goes back exactly as it was before, magazines, picture frames, etc, arranged the same way.
One time one of our guys had his shoes off (customers request) and broke his toe while moving a coffee table.

Most places I work a forklift moves it.

In the resi settings I hate moving furniture. Worse is when the home owner knows we're coming. They know we need access to their panel and attic. They don't start moving the boxes and totes away from the panel until I absolutely need in there. Then the only attic access is in the clothes closet. The just left the door open. Thanks! I could have done that. How about you remove your clothes and sh-t. No way I can get myself through the access with the shelf and hanger bar in the way.

Sorry I didn't answer your question. Just ranted. I hate resi work.

I tell people I'm a very expensive mover, i'm here to do electrical work. That's the worst thing about my job, working around peoples crap!!!
And pets. I know you love that fish, bird, cat, dog, weasel, etc. please keep that crotch sniffing, squawking, non declawed, gross snake with legs in the other room while I'm doing the work. It's costing you money because every time I have to swat your pet away is keeping me from completing my task. I don't find your ankle biting dog very amusing. I have kicked one down the stairs and ran over a paw with my scissor lift.

Oh how do I hate resi work.

If she is a sexy customer with a nice ass I'll offer to help her move obstructions.

Depends, mostly on how much crap is in the way. Ill move this or that, but if it looks like it will seriously slow me down or hurt my back, ill have them do it.

Alot of the rental properties I work on always have nasty dishes piled all up around a bad GFI, or several piles of dirty clothes next to a bad receptacle...ill just kick and shove that mess out of the way, and let them deal with it afterwards.

If you have really done a prick thing like that you will not have to worry about doing resi. You would be fired.
I would take my dogs over some egotistical cocksucker that would kick someones pet anyday.
Good luck on life douche.

If you did that to one of my animals you'd be going home the same way. 👎
