It's a small part of my business.. but just curious if anyone else on here is a member or has been a member of Rotary? https://www.rotary.org



For me, joining was about helping my community while making strong contacts with other professionals in my area. Building relationships with people that I would likely never meet otherwise. We raise money to fund local projects and events that help the community, and international programs as well.

It's been a real positive experience and I highly recommend it to the right kind of individual. It's Rotary Awareness month, so I'm putting this up.. but it could be good for your business in your area.

Our Rotary has folded, along with Kinsmen. I'm a Lions international member myself.

Service clubs are both rewarding for the individual and essential for a community. Unfortunately they seem to be dying due to lack of interest.

The Lions Club is very successful in our community as well, they do some amazing work. My wife and I were friends with another couple and the husband was a member of Rotary.. that's how I got connected into it. I had been wanting to join some organization, but never knew what or how to help. I checked them out, they did great things and everyone seemed friendly, fun and had positive attitudes.

We just did a big Christmas Hamper drive with The Lions Club, it was hugely successful! They seem like a great bunch of people.. I heard something about they only meet every other week and take summers off. Now that sounds pretty sweet! lol

How much business have you gotten from joining the Rotary club?

Hard to quantify a number to that.. I have a new business, and I'm a new member of Rotary, so the percentage is probably a lot higher for me than would be for other people. For me, I would probably say 15-20%?

I wouldn't say join exclusively to drum up business.. because they'll see through you in the first place. Don't count it making business, but I'd guarantee it will increase business.

Joining a Service club/organization to get work, is not the point.
You join to aid your community. ( But yes, My business did increase a bit, however that wasn't the reason I joined)

Join a business group like the Chamber of Commerce, if more business is the reason for joining.

I eventually had to quit as I couldn't give the amount of time I wanted to. It's not fair to the rest of the members, to be a member in name only.

When and if I ever retire, I would love to get back to Rotary

I just started taking my family to the local United Church.. it's totally dying, just really old people there. Talking with another Rotary member, he mentioned that's why service clubs are becoming popular again.. the things that churches used to do, they aren't doing, because younger generations aren't going. So now people like me, in my generation are seeking it out through service organizations like Rotary.

We find other like minded people, get together once a week, build relationships and do positive things for the community. Totally what the churches used to do!

What is a PHF? I'm still pretty new to Rotary and haven't figured out all the positions.

There's a lot of older people in our club, but in the past 3 years or so there's a big surge in younger (mid 30's) people joining. I probably wouldn't have joined if it was just an old guys club.. though you're right about it taking up some time and those retired have the time finally.

My mentor told me it's easy to overextend yourself and burn out, so decide how much per week you can do and stick to it. So far so good, but its hard to say no!

Listen to your mentor. Its very easy to burn out.
The best I got to perfect attendance, was missing just 1 meeting the year I was President.
You do realize that you will serve in all the positions, and eventually be president. That will be a very hectic year for you :thumbsup:
