Haters gonna hate, but I like sideways panels. What's that red 12/2 or 10/2 on the bottom left for?

12/2 is for a water heater just barely out of pic,
The fuse holder is what started this whole mess, it was mounted to the wall coming off the mains and feeding water heater.
Fuse blew and I talked them into a upgrade

I don't see the attraction to sideways panels.

It's not an attraction to sideways panels buzz, it's the rules!
We can't run branch circuits through the main end of the panel.
Our mains are inside the house not outside like a lot of yours.
Not to mention I very rarely have to add to wires in order to get them in panel.
If it was mounted vertical I would have to add to most.

I get the reasons for the sideways mounting, but it's still hard to get used to. :laughing: So, why all the mini breakers? And do you make the connections to the service drop, or does your poco do it? Copper or aluminum service conductors in the PVC?

Big pet peeve of mine seeing a brand new house and panel being filled with Br breakers and the basement isn't even finished yet, I started to use these for adding to exist services than just started using them for all .
POCO does the disconnect /reconnect , PITA to schedule with inspection for same day as well.
I used #2 USE-I90 alum on this one.

No , no code , we can mount them vertical as long as it's not higher than (and I could be wrong on the exact height ) isn't above 5'9" to the highest breaker and not below 4'. You know ... I don't know why the mains are inside other than to keep other people from messing with it.
Until I joined this forum I just assumed that's the way we all did it.
They haven't had the mains located outside since the 60s here

Also surprised to see all the outdoor panel down south as well.
Ridiculously expensive here.
My cost on a 30/60 panel indoors is less than 50 bucks.
Outdoor panel is closer to 200 bucks.

Huh. I thought usei90 was only for direct burial?

No , not only for direct burial.
I been using it for 25+ yrs here.
Some of the PUC,s want copper in town .

I know but ours is cool with it for service entrance/ above or below. 30' down a pole underground to house or 25' down the stack on the house what's the diff?

My code book says that usei90 is only for service entrance below ground. Table 19. My inspector would have, and has in the past, failed that installation.

Psst, don't mention it my inspector though , he might change his mind!
