I have a question regarding the installation of a plug on a sign circuit. I was looking at NEC 600.5 (2014 NEC) and it states that “…the outlet(s) shall be supplied by a branch circuit rated at least 20 amperes that supplies no other load.”
Can I install a plug on an existing sign circuit that has a sign that is hard wired into the circuit already? I think so as long as the plug I want to install will be used for signage, which is my intent, and as long as I do not exceed 80% of the circuit's capacity. However, I want to see if I am interpreting the code correctly here. Thanks in advance for your answers.
