I've got a customer who wants to be able to just control a few sets of lights in his kitchen with his phone. I've done some research and it seems any of that requires a whole home automation system. I really haven't done much with any home automation.

Is anyone aware of anything real simple that can have just a few dimmers controlled by an iPhone?

ADT sells those, and integrates `em into their alarm systems. Along with thermostats to control your heating and cooling systems.

Look at the Belkin WeMo, but they are just On/Off (not dimmers) so may not fit your application.

Runs on Wi-Fi and has apps for your smartphone.

I've used zwave. The cost is not too bad, you can add stuff later and I thought it was easy to use.

I just bought twin pak from Home D. Two 60W LED's that look just like a typ. incandescent for $50

They come with a module that plugs into an internet WIFI

A bit tricky to set up but they work with android or apple from anywhere.

So bypass the switch. What's the point of controlling it with your phone if you still need the switch? I've used Insteon with pretty good success. Have to install a hub which connects all the devices to the network. Controllable from Mac pc or iPhone. Very customizable and pretty easy to set up. Hub is about 130, switches are about 50.

Dave, I got mine from Home Depot and it's made by "TCP" in Aurora, OH

I don't have a use for it right now. I just bought it to come-up-to-speed on the technology.

One advantage I see is that it can be controlled in a home via WIFI or over the internet (which I haven't tried yet). And, folks can set up a schedule of on-off times.

Wifi bulbs are a gimmick.. I don't install them and I don't install The Clapper.

People who want that stuff can call the Home Shopping Channel and plug it in themselves when it arrives in the mail.
