I had this part go bad in a brand new ceiling fan. All parts came right out of the box. Is this the part that keeps you from putting oversized lamps in? It was in series with the feed to the light kit. It came on for a minute and then I smelled the magic smoke and the lights went out..

I bxtch about this all the time, more and more stuff bad right outta the box. You do a job and power up and nothing.....GFIC's (Leviton's) for sure 30% failure....now I just buy dozen at supply house...no more HD lev-s for RGH.

Looks like the high temperature thermistor.
When you install higher wattage lamps, it cuts out when the heat gets too high, looks like it's a 125C.
You should be able to find one in a cheap pot light.
