Starting off

This is my first post on the forums, and i have been trying to decide where to start in becoming an electrician. Reading through some older posts i see people saying tech schools are not the way to go since you are paying for the training.

I originally was planning to enroll in a program at sheridan tech center but now i'm not sure what i should do. Is there an apprenticeship i could take and make money while i learn without any prior experience in the trade?

Thanks in advance for any help you all can provide me with.

Theres 1 apprentice out of 12 that did tech school that I rate at my company. You would learn more getting coffee and sweeping floors for an EC.
Thanks for the reply i'm glad i came here first before enrolling in a tech school.
What would you recommend as the first step to becoming an Electrician?
Write out a resume and a covering letter individualised to each company.

Email this to any EC you can find within your location. If you get replies thats good, act accordingly. If they dont reply to you show up with your resume and covering letter folded up into 3 sticking out of your back pocket wearing jeans and tidy flannel/work shirt, wear work boots if you have them. Its important to show up around 7 as the guys are rolling out and the office ladies arent there. The office ladies are your worst enemy, you need to talk to a senior PM or the owner. Look him in the eye and ask if they need a labourer or helper, be confident but not cocky.
