I got a call from a guy this morning about a job a long way from here we live
in a very rural area... On the third floor of a 180 year old house he said he
lost power on one side of the room so he plugged in a long extension cord to a power strip... when the cord is plugged he says it powers up the room
when he unplugs the cord everything goes dead including the receptacle?
Have run into anything like this any suggestions!

180 years is a long time to be leaving a buildings wiring alone with the craigslist crowd............Could be most anything at this point.
