Had a customer ask me last night if I could mount a spotlight on his tree to light up his basketball court. There is no structure nearby to mount the light and he doesn't like my idea of installing a 15' post in the middle of his yard. I couldnt find anything in the nec. (Only looked for 5 min.

It was in the 2011 NEC, as well.

In fact, it's been in the Code since at least 1993, though before 2008 it was section 410.16(H).

I seen it done a lot around local slum apartment complexes. Only issue the tree will eventually grow around the conduit, box then light. It certainly wont be compliant in 10 years time.
