Substation Technician Trainee

I just got hired at a local utility as a Substation Technician Trainee. I don't start until next month and it is a union job. Does anyone have any information on what I can expect? Any substation technicians with any information on day to day life working in this field? How do you like your job as a substation technician? Any feedback is appreciated.

Is it safe to do this job with a titanium rod in your leg that doesnt effect your mobility? Everyone ensures me its safe, but im always asking peoples opinions
