Sump pump of GFi?

A coworker of mine told me that sump pumps and garage receptacle don't have to be on a GFI. He said there is a state amendment that doesn't require it. I am in New Jersey by the way. Does anybody have any info on this and where to find these amendments? I thought New Jersey didn't have any...Thanks

Your friend is correct, but you should know where to find this information for yourself.
