I have 10, 4 inch PVC pipes entering the back of a 3000 amp switchgear.

I am told I do not need to punch holes and terminate in adapters with locknuts and bushings. I can just cut out the back of the gear to fit the pipes and install end bells and call it good.

This is not normally what I would do, but I can not find where it would be a violation. I briefly looked in 300.

Do I need to use male adapters dressed up?

What is punching out 10 - 4" holes going to accomplish?
Will connecting the pipes to them bond anything?
Prevent movement?
Protect the conductors from damage?
etc?

What is the actual purpose?

And in case any of you are wondering where all the buss bars are....check with some Scrapyard's.

Thief's.
This gear was stripped overnight a couple months ago.
Looks like a housekeeping pad would have been a good idea.

If I was the customer I would have a real problem with the bottom of my brand new gear sitting in water.
