Just finished up a new home for a builder. The customer decided, after the fact, that he wanted some recessed lighting installed on a separate switch.

The existing box was a 2-gang....Rather than cutting it out and installing a 3-gang, someone created this abortion. Its' not hard to see why the other guy was cheaper. Behold.....

Ah. Because that was a much easier fix than putting in a three gang.

And the uneducated customer got just what they paid for.
Plus they voided their warranty to save a few bucks...not very smart.

Exactly what I said.
As long as they bonded the boxes, the inspector will think it's just fine (at least mine would).
Tough to bond a plastic box.
What did cut the box out with a screw driver?:laughing:
Looked like it was cut with a set of dykes.

I want to see him try to get a plate to fit on that mess..:no:
So do I. The cut-in sticks out about 3/16" from the wall, even though the strap is flush to the sheetrock....it wasn't adjusted to allow the device to sit back where it needs to be.

Not to mention the fact that the right hand switch is sitting about a 1/4" lower than the others.

Not sure where the decora switch came from. I'd be pissed if someone did this to my brand new home.

ETA: And the "half-of-a-cut-in" is loose too.

Wait...I thought hack jobs like this were done with Carlon boxes. That sure looks like a metal box to me.
