So I want to go to this school and they want us to provide our own tools, which I don't have a problem with, but it seems a little excessive, and all name brand (i.e. Kline). I was wondering if any of you hand some insight as to how good the list is and if it would be beneficial to get better quality tools now, instead of opting for the cheaper route. Thanks!

Hell i like Ideal. They make good tools. Channellock is good; for your meter they are cheating you. I'm not a fan of klein meters. Fluke, Ideal, and BK Precision are some of the best money can buy.

They probably require that particular meter because that is what the instructor has and is familiar with the operation of. It makes it easier for instructor to show setup and operation if everyone is looking at the same display, buttons, and dials.

IMO, if this is a career you are working towards, then invest in good quality tools if you can afford them. If you will be doing this a long time, you will want tools that will last you.

As for brands that I prefer, I like Klein and Ideal for drivers. Klein for Strippers, *****, Linesman's, and pliers. Fluke is my choice for meters

Welcome to the trade and good luck.

Anyone who told me I MUST use a klein meter or a certain brand can take a hike! This place sounds crazy, providing over 2000' of wire, all your own conduit, wire nuts. Heck you better supply your own toilet paper to use should you ever need to take a sh*t lol. The cost in materials and tools must be 4x the tuition alone

Does New York have any licensing requirements? Does the state count this program towards meeting those requirements?

Very often these programs are a scam: You might spend thousands of dollars to be in a position that is not one single bit better than a guy who walks in off the street and applies for an apprenticeship without spending a nickel.

What the hell !!!??? Since when do students need to supply all that stuff. And a panel , meter socket and a few other items and they would have enough to wire a small home

Seems extreme and I would like to know the cost of this course and if it applies towards any state mandated training requirements.

AS for the meters having everyone utilize the same meters simplifies training.

In many photography courses you have to supply a slew of items, camera's, film, paper, framing items, external hard drives.

Having to supply that much material is pretty odd. $20 says they keep they scrap and pocket the cash.
