A buddy of mine recently discovered (the hard way) that the underground cable from his house to his detached garage was not only 6" below groud, but that it was also just a 12/2 romex.

Now I will be running conduit from the main to the garage with a disconnect switch. My normal jobs are not Chicago based, so my question is, what type of cable/wire does Chicago code require you to run inside the underground conduit?

thanks!

I can't say what Chicago would allow but if you really want to run a cable the NEC would allow UF to be used.

But I suggest what the previous poster said and use either THWN or XHHW.

Yo, PJMURPH2002...is that Baron Von Rashke I see on your photo there...man, that brings back memories of the old days!...THE CLAW!

Chicago...not sure...but I would use THWN, XHHW, or something rated for wet locations if it is in conduit...300.50(2)(B)
