Unbelievable

We all see stuff every day that makes us shake our heads, this one is beyond belief. Did an upgrade today which included eliminating some old Edison fuse boxes and extending the circuits to the new 200 amp panel. The furnace room fuse box supposedly ran the electric dryer and the furnace. Funny thing was when the dryer fuses were unscrewed the dryer kept running.

Also noticed the wire was really charred. #10 UF which disappeared into the ceiling and re-appeared outside as #14/2 Romex for about 80 feet to the dryer on the back porch!

Questioning the HO, who is actually my daughter-in-law's father, here is the story. Brother in law moved the dryer for them some years back, which explains the buried splice in the ceiling of the #10 to the #14/2. After that, the wires at the fuses got really hot and the fuses kept blowing. So he asks the neighbor what could be wrong? The neighbor, being neighborly and all, figures out how to keep those pesky fuses from blowing:eek:

He says it has been this way for many years. Needless to say ended up running a dryer circuit as well. Just unbelievable what some people do, it borderlines on attempted homicide.
