Looks like someone was standing on the plywood fan support... if it would hold a person I'm sure it's good for the fan.:laughing::jester:

The plywood trick isn't a bad idea as long as it's independently supported. No comment on the bottle-cap, though. :laughing:

I use the plywood method but I use 1/4 20 nuts/bolts/washers.

I would have turned the bottle cap over and created a cup washer :thumbup:

I've used a KO slug from a 4 square as a washer in a pinch. I use the plywood method too, they're all still hanging as far as I know

Seriously...you'd do an install like that. It just doesn't seem safe. I agree the fans were still hanging, but......

I think if you tied that plywood off with some tie-wire somehow, id call it kosher.

Has it ever passed an inspection? These weren't independently supported. There's 8 of them and we're charging them to re support them with unistrut lagged to the joists and 3/8" all thread to an octagon box and a caddy bar to the grid.

Good idea with the plywood. Wouldn't be acceptable in a plenum rated ceiling.

I like the plywood and rod/strut better than the ceiling fan box I saw butchered into where the "t" grid intersected. Looked like band saws gone wild.
