I am a homeowner working off a Homeowner permit in my state. The only boxes I could find at Home Big Box stores were large 22" boxes. I bought a bunch and don't like the way the way the romex goes in the back so close to the drywall on the backside. I drilled two holes for the romex to go thru a little closer to the front. I left the original tabs in the back of the box.

Is this Kosher? I figure it would be safer with the romex closer to the center of the stud and there is still room for the receptable outlet in the front of the box. The two wires above are restrained with a staple within 12" (not in the picture).

Also would I need a protector plate behind box if the conductors are this close to the backside?

Thanks for reaching out but this site's limited to industry pros.
We do have a sister site over at www.DIYChatroom.com where there are plenty of people to help you out, including many pros from this site.
Unfortunately I have to close this thread.
Be safe, have a nice day and head on over to www.DIYChatroom.com.
Thanks.
