Has anyone bought a used tranny for a job? Seems like I can save the customer a grand if I do.

Only clicked here for the tranny joke but IMO a grand isn't enough of a savings for you and your customer to be considering using used gear. Unless he's willing to pay you that and more to certify the thing is worth putting back into service

My boss sold someone a used transformer before.

We were back a week later installing a new, less noisy one.

Inspect it well. If anything look baked don't ask for to much life from it. Ask the customer though first.

Megger the transformer. Lift the XO bond if one exist

Primary to Secondary
Secondary to ground
Primary to ground

A TTR would be nice but I would put 120 VAC across the primary and measure secondary voltage AT A MINIMUM and do a coil at a time.
