Hi Guys,

I need help getting myself placed for web marketing. I had a company that wasn't worth the money I paid. I'm not up to par as to what the min keywords needed should be used. I would like to target an entire county where I'm licensed but, that maybe an expensive proposition.
I get solicitations daily from SEO companies stating that my business visibility is poor on the internet.
If I type in only my town and electrical contractor I come up. The company that I used wasn't even aware that I had fallen off google maps.
Do many of you thrive off of having a great SEO company in your "county" your licensed in or do patrons find you by a catchy business name they remember and search you by company name.
Is it worth spending a significant amount of money to get noticed with web marketing?
In conclusion a friend of mine has a brother in law who monitors and maintains his web page and to tell you quite honestly he doesn't get any work from it. Is it remotely possible this person doesn't have the proper technology are relations with google, bing, yahoo, etc? Or is it just very difficult to get noticed by simple keywords an SEO company applies.
I'm really lost in all of this. If one company promises to have me placed on the first page, they are also relaying the same message to other potential electrical contractors within my target areas. So, how do we win, if we're all after the same target?

Do you have a kindle? If not you can still get books for a laptop or desktop or even a tablet from the kindle program.

I have roughly 1400 kindle books since the beginning of summer. I mostly look for free books that are on special every few days. I read them when waiting in inspectors classes or at a doctors.

I enjoy the works of a Claude Whitcare on Amazon Kindle. He has a service which you can pay him to do it for you or read his book for a few bucks.

Just yesterday, I was in a seminar for free on local marketing that was done via Go To Meeting software. One of the gems in it was getlisted.org to see where you are listed and where you aren't.

Another freebie I saw was an ebook as well as countless youtubes from Plumbing Seo on local search. At least look at it so you have an elementary grasp of the subject before you hire someone or attempt to do it yourself.

I also lurk on the Warrior Forum attempting to stay ahead of the curve.

If any companies promises or guarantees they'll get you on the first page, you should not work with them.

Based on the guys I've talked to about this, only spammers and guys who use less than reputable tactics would guarantee SEO rankings.

Besides, for what keyword did they promise they'll get you on the first page? Sure, they might be able to get you there for some keyword that gets zero traffic at all, but are they going to be able to get you there for something more competitive?

Here's a few links that will help you if you are looking to hire a company:

For years I had domain names that I did NOTHING with. I was always going to get around to doing something cause the experts charge too much. But procrastination gripped my mind as I wondered back and forth between what would be the best to do first. Nothing happened as it got harder and harder to stay in business.

Finally I broke down late last year and hired a firm who does contracting sites and was an electrician themselves. I wish that I had done it years ago instead. I do kick myself for that now. But oh well.

I like to be familiar with all this web stuff even if it is on the most elementary level. So if I did pay someone to do x, I could at least be on the same page as what was going on.

Even if you are #1 in every word about electricity known to man, the phone calls to claim your google listing, or get on the front page of some search engine will never stop. Claude Whitcare's books explains that he gets upwards of 8 calls a day on it. Just hangup.

Do you already have a site? What areas are you trying to chase such as house calls, commercial, industrial, institutional, parking lot, etc...?

Ok so I have a domain but of course I don't do squat with it because I don't have the ground work laid, I'm trying to get my reviews up but it seems like all my customers are older.... not the type to review and even when they do leave me a yelp or google review the reviews get hidden or punted because they aren't regular users....
