Same thing almost

I've had some good luck with local Facebook groups and hairdressers. Hooked up with a really good client through the latter.
When I had my horseback riding business I used to go out on a brochure run and put out brochures. I could of had someone else do it but as the owner I wanted to meet other owners, and get the brochures in to the hard to get in places. I would always offer a free ride to come out and see the place.

One day I met the owner of a hair salon/day spa and invited her and her whole staff out for a after hours sunset ride. She was dumbfounded that I would do that. My reply was
" What better way to promote my business than having 10 women talk about how much fun they had" :vs_laugh:

I'm not at all dumbfounded that you would do that. What surprises me is that you had at least 12 horses. That's a lot of mouths to feed. :surprise:

If you give your card out to 100 realtors, you will be used for pricing, or sent out on bogus jobs to help a deal close about 99% of the time.

The 1% of the time, a lead will turn into something profitable.

That's all I got say about handing out cards to realtors.

input / output

That's a lot of horse crap.

How many acres?
I leased 200 acres.:cowboy:
Input in the winter time was 60 bales of hay and 300-400 gallons of water a day = 12 wheelbarrows output.:vs_poop:

Face to face

Realtors, chamber of commerce, hotels, good places to leave business cards, etc.
If you do any factory work go door to door. I know we could not find anyone that wanted half or one day jobs. That may get you in the door.

Do you do service work? Again door to door letting them know you will come out to repair troubles at any time. Remember once you get in you are in for good if you do great work.

One "yea I have something for you" from a face to face is better than none by leaving cards. I did the cards, brochure, booklet with pictures, bla bla bla, most work came from face to face cold calls. YES some people will get pissed because you disturbed them, just say sorry and move on to next person.

Hey now, realty is the family business. I'm a 6 hour state test away from taking over the brokerage...

Anyway, yes, you'll mostly get used for pricing on the TRR and the seller won't want to pay for the repairs, and the homeowner doesn't know better to pay out of pocket and get something dangerous repaired. You might hear from them again when it sells again...

But then there are the calls "they're doing their walk-through tomorrow before the closing and the spark bailed on us. Can you come RIGHT NOW?!!" $$$$$

Being a realtor, I have the advantage of access to the key box. I can give a quote at my leisure when I'm in that part of town, and let myself in to do the work whenever I feel like it. Without the realtor breathing down my neck.

Google ad words.
Yes but expensive!
Any idea on ROI for addwords?
I've heard for every $1 spent you might get $3-$4 in return.
I know they're are A LOT of factors, some that are unique to each company, but does this sound right?
to spend $5k in marketing to get $20k in leads/sales doesn't sound too good.
Sure it would put work on the books, but at 25% of the sales revenue, all (or more) of the profit is burned up by the add-words spend.
I've been looking into this recently, any advice for how to do add-words profitably?

I do resi upgrades and repairs only.

Every little community/neighborhood in the metro area has weekly, or monthly, newsletter (maybe 30 total). They are delivered with the mail. I advertise in the ones for the areas closest to me (about 15).

This generates about a dozen calls each time they are delivered. That's for acquiring new customers. 80% of my biz is repeats, or referrals.
