Hello.

Some time ago I peeked through an open manhole in my city. It had some red thick cables. They came from buried conduits and ended in an object I will attempt to describe: It was a black piece of plastic whose body was cylinder-shaped, around twice as thick as the cables. From a side of this cylinder 4 other slightly smaller cylinders protruded. These lateral cylinders ended in the cable itself. I didn't took a photo of it, but I was able to find this image, which depicts something similar:

However, the body of the object I'm trying to describe was somewhat sorter. How is this called and what it does?.

I have read about electrical distribution systems but there was no mention of this object.

Thanks in advance.

Pretty sure It's just a type of splice, kind of like the plugs on Christmas tree lights, you can stack some together.

Thanks you very much guys.

So, if I understand correctly what I called a single object in the picture is actually 5 separate pieces joined together. That makes sense; but I think the one I saw personally looked like a single piece, is that possible?. Are these used for medium voltage only?. Are the elbows at the end the same thing as the elbows used to feed transformers?.

Big John will have to pick up here, I do not know.

Sorry if MTW and I derailed things.

I've seen them in manholes. Basically like bbq said plug n play. The last time I came across that was Y2k and we were disconnecting a switch gear feed that came out of a sub station into a manhole and had that contraption. They didn't want to fool with that mess and tried the old safe it off in a mason jar ( I know old school). It didn't work and when they energized that mother it blew a hole the size of a fist out of the J box.
