I think it is some sort of choke that limits current, and when the contacts close shorting out the three windings across from it, relay 71FX can then energize, which closes N.O contact for points 9 & 8 allowing the trip circuit to energize the 52X trip coil of the breaker.

Hitachi 20kw static exciter btw.

The contacts are 71F1-6 are apart of the protection circuit for the silicon rectifier cells.

Just reviewing some drawings and would like to know the exact term on what this is.
