I am adding a neutral from a well shed sub panel to a sub panel in my garage. This is overhead, and the run is roughly 70 feet. I will be running 30 amps of 240 out there. I believe that the current set up is 8/2 copper with an aluminum ground.

I am having a hard time finding an appropriate solid uv and weather resistant single strand of wire to add to this setup so I can convert to 240 and have a separate ground and neutral.

Easier to buy a new piece of triplex or quadraplex and do it correctly

Do you normally just string a piece of THHN across the air from one structure to another?

I'd just buy aerial quad and re-run it. Easy peasy. Buying individual conductors is going to be much harder to source, and the stuff is pretty cheap, especially in that size. Heck, you can buy it right from here for under $1/ft. Not sure what shipping would be though.
