Just wondering what anybody thought about that. Im an apprentice in a company that almost never does pw work and im thinking about continuing my apprenticeship with a company that does. Although i still have much to learn i am also sharper learning this trade a bit quicker than a lot of guys at my level. So when i hear about these other first year guys that dont know crap yet outside of maybe pulling wire making 6-7 bux more than me an hour on these pw sites it kills me man. :(

This is a great company but they are also known for terrible pay so im grateful for being in a position where the JM i work with can see i am eager to learn and teach me a lot but i also got bills to pay so it gets frustrating.

But i do know that PW work can get scarce and those wages mean crap when ur sitting at home.

If you are in an apprenticeship, you don't get the JM rate. You get whatever you normally make. Anyone not in an apprenticeship gets the full wage.
Apprentices in AbC get a percentage of the jman rate, our 4th years get 85% of the jman rate. First year starts off around $18 an hour totally green.

To answer the first reply i am enrolled in abc but as a trainee so they can pay whatever they want. Im enrolled as craft not indentured.
That's a pisser anyway to call abc and have them put you on the books? Our company does exclusively PW work I meet a lot of abc apprentices every year. It's a sweet deal if you can get in. The tough part is getting on PW after you graduate. Who wants to pay someone over $60 an hour with only 5 years experience?

Is it possible that it is different here?

I don't think our apps get a percentage, they just get what they get paid normally.

I know we don't cheat because there are folks on every job that verify these things.

It must be different. Our apprentices are extremely overpaid, I've seen 4th years make $80g In a year.

If, as you say, they don't know crap, then a 6 to 7 dollar an hour wage will equal out when they are laid off. Another thing is that if you can't make a living at what you are doing...why are you doing it? Again... IF, as you say, you feel as though your JW is taking an interest in you and is teaching you a lot, stick with them. Consider it "YOUR DUES". The INDUSTRY does not owe you a living right off the bat.
