Ok I'm a green apprentice and I can't understand why I'm getting tagged when I install a duplex. When I touch the hot screw with my screwdriver and touch the mounting strap with the other hand I get tagged.

From an electrical standpoint I dont understand what is happening. Like, why does my touching the metal mounting strap make a difference?

it's grounded. Why are you installing outlets hot? Especially if you don't even know that.

This is a joke right?

You do realize that your posting in a forum with a number of old dogs who love nothing more to rub your pup nose in your own sh*t!

u need to build up a bigger tolerance since your so green. try to do it and hold it for longer next time. the tingling sensation should get less each time until you get to tge point of being able to touch your tongue to it
now don't tell him that. That will leave a terrible taste if you use your tongue. You do need to build up a better tolerance though.

It's more likely than not that you give off a homosexual vibe. Try putting a little bass in your voice and quit wearing your little brother's T-shirts.

Because my boss never shuts any of the breakers off EVER. And I mean NEVER. He insists on working on everything hot. We do 277 hot. We do 277 hot while soaking wet. Thank f-God I've never been tagged by that. I can't wait till I get my license because I'm turning the ****ing breakers off to work on stuff.

It's scary but he's an outstanding electrician and I learn a lot. My elbows are really starting to hurt from all the bites though.

If he insists on working everything hot for no good reason then he's not that smart. Just saying, it's hard to learn anything when you get lit up all the time.

I really think you're joking.

If you're not, that "outstanding electrician" you work for isn't so outstanding. What he's exposing you to is flatly illegal. He may be an excellent installer and troubleshooter, but he cares not one bit about your life, safety, and the property of the people who have contracted him.
