Where do you draw the line?

If they wont pay to change it out, what do you guys do? Install a sub and add whatever breakers you need from there? Buy an aftermarket breaker and wire it up? Walk away and never look back?

Id love to do nothing but panel changes and put these babies in the grave, but that's not always an option.

If they won't pony up for a swap, not much you can do. Move on.

Usually a sub if needed. I've been lucky though most people doing work involving these monsters usually have then riped out for something larger anyway.
I had a wadsworth I ran a new sump pump circuit to but that was a management company and they definitely won't pony up the dough for a service change.

I have many of these monsters in the buildings I service. I keep photos on my phone to show building managers some before and after of zinsco failures. It seems to help to add changes to the building budget.

If they can't or won't change, and the load doesn't present an overload issue, I'll put in a breaker and wire it up, with a permit and inspection and be on my way.
