3/4" bender will bend 1/2" IMC so.....My educated guess is that it will work but I would be careful that the kicker is built solidly since the IMC would be putting more force on the unit.

 

Yes, that would be my concern, the strength of the "offset maker". I have never used one. Are they adjustable, or set for 1900 boxes.

 

If they are adjustable, that would be kind of cool to have, especially if you are doing a lot of kicks. I am partial to uniformity :thumbsup:

ill probably get ripped for this but we have one of the 1/2" kicker and I think its great, we bought one for a job were there was a lot of exposed pipe work just to look uniform. Not saying I cant bend an offset but, its nice tool to have.

 

I haven't used one in at least twenty years, but I sure did like them when I did use them. Especially for surface runs that you can see. Nothing wrong with using one of those in my book, and some guys cannot see as well as others so please do not start up with the "I only do perfect bends routine". I have a harder time lining up 1/2" emt than I do 4". They used to print a thin dotted red or black line along opposite sides of emt way back. That made for better box offsets as well.

 

smaller conduit is hard for me to line up as well, especially with small offsets. its almost worth making lines on it opposite of each other but that takes as much time as bending the offset should....

 

I'll get hammered for this I'm sure but sometimes I seriously wonder why they even still make 1/2" conduit. I can bend that crap over my knee.

 

Because you can still use it for #14 through #10 for a lot of uses. Not everyone works big commercial jobs where the specs state all branch circuits must be no smaller than #8.

I never used one of those box kickers, I was told they are junk...now me thinks I was told wrong. I mean I am pretty good at bending pipe, not a wiz (takes me a few bends or more...to get my mojo back if it's been a while...) but I agree they sure would be nice to have with a ton of exposed work.

 

It takes me a couple bends every time to remember my bender puts a little kick to the right and I have to compensate for it.

 

i've used them offset benders. works good. but its just something else to keep up with. if you have 40 guys on a job everybody wants to use it. screw it. i'll just use the hand bender. and i think i tried it on IMC. does'nt work.

 

I bought the 1/2" Greenlee kicker years ago and it paid for itself on the first job with time saved. It's one of the most useful tools that I own.

 

We carry a 1810 (1/2") and a 1811 (3/4") on every truck, they are handy and save alot of time. They can make the greenest apprentice look like a pro. Bottom line, time is money save both were you can.
