We bought a new/old condo that has aluminum wiring, and I'm finding that the previous owner used ordinary wire nuts when he installed his new switches. The switch wires are tinned copper.
I want to install Lutron smart switches, and I want it to be reasonably safe as well. Done a lot of research, and people seem to love the Alumiconn connectors, but they're hard to get in Canada. Purple wire nuts of the "Ideal" brand are easily gotten, but I've seen the pictures of them burning to a crisp online.
Question is how likely is that really? I can Google pictures of people winning the lottery, but that doesn't mean it will happen to me. In your experience, are the purple nuts safe?
Thanks!
