I have a 3-phase winch with two 4-wire SO cords. One SO is my line power, the other is my switch leg for the winch. Having trouble wiring switch. Nine pin toggle is double throw for up and down. Forward and reverse work through the phasings on the winch. There is no contactors.

I am thinking the first thing you'll have to do is figure out the wiring diagram for the switch, unless you find a part number on it you can google. Assuming it's 3PDT, center off, you have to identify which terminals are the commons and which go to the commons in the up position and which go to the commons in the down position.

So I am just guessing, maybe you'd wire it

line side black to common-1
load side black pigtailed to up-1 and down-2

line side red to common-2
load side red pigtailed to up-2 and down-1

line side blue to common-3
load side blue pigtailed to up-3 and down-3

That would reverse rotation depending on the position of the switch. This could come out backwards, lowering and raising reversed, if that's the case swap line side black and red on the commons. Or I guess you could rotate the switch in its knockout :)

Someone else will chime in soon enough.

You will have to confirm a few things first.

With switch in off position there is no continuity between any of the tabs on the switch.
Up position there is continuity between the middle tab and the tab below
down position there is continuity from the middle tab to the tab above.

On the 4 wire cord ohm and 2 of them should have continuity and the other 2 should not. Mark the 2 that have continuity as motor. mark the other 2 as power.

Wouldn't recommend this, looks like you are leaving one one of the phases hot with the motor not running?? Why not connect the third pole of the switch?

Lets back up on step.
Does the switch go from on to on none stop? What I mean is does it stop at off mechanical or can it be thrown from on to on fast?
Reason I say this the manual reversing switch's had a off detent so you did not flash over due to the cross phasing on the back. If that switch is not built for it I would not use it.
