The devil is in the details... not that other stuff is not more important. I agree with op that it's kind of nitpicky of the inspector, but i don't know the whole story.

I recently had an inspector tell me that the wrong screws were used to place a 200 amp panel in the wall cavity.
@lmgoldstein58 : Just wondering- how many panels had you passed prior to this?

I recently had an inspector tell me that the wrong screws were used to place a 200 amp panel in the wall cavity. I checked and drywall screws were used - no problem except she wouldn't tell me the correct ones to use. Question: I checked around and can't seem to get a straight answer. So, what type of screws are used to attach a panel in between the studs? Thanks.
Tell em to stfu.

Nit picky for sure, but I could see how drywall screws would be "inappropriate fastners" as their only appropriate use is attaching drywall to studs.

Please direct us to the source for specific "panel mounting screws". I'm having a hard time locating a supply.....

It says "appropriate" not "specific". There's at least two more sides to this story. I think either the inspector is an idiot, or there were multiple other things wrong and the inspector might have been trying to raise the bar. Not enough info given by op to know which. I typically disagree with dumb writeups like this but if everything else was in line with those screws, maybe the inspector was doing their job well. We all know those screws would hold even though they're Lame-o. So why is the op getting beaten up?

Don't get me wrong, whatever screws you find on the floor are the right ones to mount the panel in my opinion, I'm just debating because stirring the pot is entertaining.

Drywall screws can't be appropriate for mounting a panel, because their appropriate use is mounting drywall.
Sheet metal screws aren't appropriate to fasten a panel to a wood stud, because they are designed to screw into metal.
Roofing nails would not be appropriate because they are designed to fasten shingles to wood, not a panel.

Any other non-specific use structural screw or nail designed to be driven into wood and have an acceptable sheer rating to support the weight of the panel would be appropriate and satisfy the manufacturers installation directions.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

urine appropriate!

I just installed a ceiling fan that had a safety cable. Directions said to screw the clip for the cable to the ceiling at a framing member with a “drywall screw”.
It probably said something like "intertek - made in china"
Yes. The 11 year old slave laborer writing the instructions in China used google translate for the English instructions. It translated Chinese for "Strong wall screw" as "drywall screw." Google doesn't really know everything and the kid writing the instructions has never seen a ceiling fan out of its box.

The fact that anybody is bothered by drywall screws holding up a panel shows what a bunch of soft 🐓 we've become. Once the panel is wired the wire will carry that panel, even if it's mounted with hubba bubba.
I wouldn't use drywall screws cause Phillips screws suck.
Edited for spelling.

Is there ever an end to the rediculous things inspectors can come up with?!
