I've been doing electric for over 10 years I work for a temp agency making 22 . The last job I was assigned to was a company looking to hire someone. They liked the way I worked,I was moved around with diffrent workers and I got a good report from each one and each one told me the company wants to hire me. So comes the Forman and asked how much I want. ...I said 25 a hr. 2 days later I got a call saying that assignment is over and they are looking for someone to pay less. I have basically been matching the head guys performance on each job . Anything I was asked if did. The guy that assigns me jobs said they are looking for a helper but the head guy at the company texted me last night saying they really liked me but don't wanna pay that high and they asked my permission to keep my number incase things change.

So they are looking for a helper but at the same time they want a guy who does things correct and has experience in all different phases of electric. I'm so fustrated with this field because ,in my opinion, someone who can bend pipe, run circuits, read prints, follow directions and do things correctly, has experience in residential and commercial, can trouble shoot... is neat, works hard....this guy deserves 25 an hour. What am I missing to get there? What is expected for 25 a hr? 200 a day ..... one circuit ran about 100 ft away is priced more than 200 dollars and I do plenty of work a day to make that up on production

They are trying to get you for cheap bro. If you are getting $22 per hr from an agency they must be charging $44 at minimum per hour for you from those hiring them. Have you looked at what prevailing wage in the area you work in is per hour?

Try to keep your eyes open for larger company.

When I was 18 a colleague at the complex I did maintenance at took me to a temp place, he would go pick up work for fun money. I went in, talked to the desk and left. I was not impressed. But that was me, I had money and a house. If I needed one or both, I'd take anything I could.

Plainly you don't understand the rules of the game.

1) EVERY temp agency has boilerplate stipulating that should a client wish to hire away any temporary employee from their clutches -- they owe the temp agency a 'finders fee// placement fee.'

This is NOT a small sum. It may be as high as six-months wages.

( This is seen in Silicon Valley all the time. )

2) When your prospective employer inquired into hiring you permanently they were reminded that the placement fee was due -- in full -- immediately.

They CHOKED.

They'd forgotten// completely over looked the placement fee.

3) They never phoned you to explain that you can't be hired by them -- without paying this fee -- until two full years have passed. ( The latter is a national standard set by the courts, BTW. ) That would make for an embarrassing phone call.

4) You're left standing around puzzled as to what has not transpired.

5) Your asking wage was considerably LESS than what they'd been paying the temp agency for your services. So, you're barking up the wrong tree on that account.

You should use your connections to get hired straight off WITHOUT the temp agency. This is something that you should be able to pull off. Use photographs, referrals, etc. to make yourself a compelling candidate.

Be sure to show up wearing your tool sacks, PPE, and ready to work -- even if you're walking into their corporate offices. Yes, it makes a heck of an impression.

Don't show up in flip-flops and shorts. It's been tried, let me tell you.
