Any union shop owners?

I worked for a contractor as an apprentice, and am now laid of waiting to work. I was considering contacting them and offering to work for less if they gave me a foreman call. I know workers frown upon this, but would the superintendent?

First......to my non-union brethern here on ET........THIS is the TRUE definition of a RAT!!! Offer to work for less so you can skip the list. RAT!!!

How exactly would an apprentice expect to get a foreman call?
As a union shop co-owner I know exactly how I would view that approach.

I know this has to be a troll thread but what the hell............I'm bored tonight.

Seriously Brian??? Productive response??? The guy is a RAT. I'm not looking to give a productive answer or trying to be politically correct. I don't give a single f*#k if I offended someone either. The guy is talking about selling out the contract that he raised his right hand and swore to uphold.......same as the rest of brothers did when we were sworn in.....and at the same time jumping over the list of his fellow workers who may have been waiting for weeks/months or years. I would have more respect for somebody who goes out and gets a non-union job while he waits on the list.
Unions make you swear in wow I had no idea. That's weird

I can say for sure that my local still follows the practice.
I'm not sure if all the others do as well.
We all (all the members of local 1852) stood and raised our right hands and swore to uphold the ideals, the values and the constitution of the IBEW.

If you are serious and not merely trolling, it is not possible to do what you are proposing. Not only is it disrespectful to the IBEW, but any union contractor would think you a moron for even proposing such a thing. If you truly want to do this you must leave the union and join the ranks of non union electricians. But I suspect you are just trying to stir up a big ol' pot of ****e.

What you are asking about is not going to happen. The hall receives payroll reports from every shop and it shows everyone's wage. If you do this and are caught, the shop will be on the hook for the difference in your wages.

With that said, it sounded like maybe you had a good relationship with that shop. If so, they might have a position for you inside. Could be warehouse or something it the estimating or project manager areas.
If you could get them to pay your benefits somehow, that would be nice.

Worst advice on here.
I've never been one to wait for somebody to do something for me , I see it ,I want it, I go get it. Now my advice would be bad for someone who has to have a union to hold their hands and tell them when to go to the bathroom.

A non union electrician is an electrician, some are good and some are bad. A Union electrician is an electrician who receives an education through an accredited program recognized by the US Dept of Labor, some are good and some are bad. A union electrician who comes up through the program and then drops out of his local to work non union is a rat. A union electrician who goes around the out of work list to solicit work at a lower scale is a worm. Worms who cause financial harm to other members by book jumping can be brought up on charges and fined or expelled from the local. If you don't want to follow the rules of the local, drop your ticket and leave. But don't screw another brother or sister who chooses to do it right. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
