I had to do an inspection at a big box store last week.

Went through the whole place and found only a few small issues. But when I looked at the panel history I found an error. A few phone calls later and a new panel was being overnighted to me.

A bunch of pics, feel free to ask questions

First the 'Sprinkler room', this one is kind of boring, no fire pump and fire pump controller.

Here you can see the 'Smoke Exhaust Fan control panel

As long as it is underlined people will obey.

These are fire resistant cables running from the control panel out to the fans, I think they are two hour rated.

I took a scrap piece of one of the conductors and heated it with a plumbing torch for about 10 minutes during break one day and it looked fine.

Now the main Fire Panel area.

That is a hard one to answer, I have seen some older then me still working and have seen some 3 days old quit and die out. Its just luck of the draw in my opinion, but for the most part as long as no water or other kinds of external damage occur they should last you a long time.

So after testing a ton of points, and finding the tamper and flows out in various areas around the store which can be hard to find. I find this in the panels history

Fire-Lite says that means the processor is having issues and the panel must be replaced.

Well two days later I am back with a new panel, I open the box when I get there and find the new panel had been damaged in transit. The locked door came all the way off, the PC board mounts were broken.

Now waiting for another panel

Here I am using a 2 gang blank to show out of square it is

Here the screw holding the board to the mount was broken right off.

UPS must have got your package and one of B4T's packages of light bulbs confused and beat the crap out of the wrong one.

Why put all of the NAC panels in one spot?
It is how they want it., in this store there is another group of four in rear. One of the NACs at the front is for duct detector power.

I did one of these stores from the ground up and because of voltage drop in such long runs each NAC circuit only powers 2 to 4 horn strobes. The one I did had 13 NACs for horn strobes, 8 at the front, 7 at the rear and another NAC for duct detector power.

All the terminal strips pop off for an easy swap..

Why not change just the board..
I wish, I really do.

They upgraded to a better panel and it is not the same size. The new enclosure is deeper because display and keyboard stick out more.

then all you have left is (8) hours of programming..
They wanted me to take the programing down on paper and re-enter it all:eek:

Since I am waiting for another panel I have been setting up my laptop to pull the programing out of the old panel and put it in the new.

I am doing this work for a large security company that has their own help desk for the techs in the field.

I call them up and start telling them about the test and they should be able to see each alarm or trouble I caused while testing. We quickly figured out he only got about 1/3 of the things he should have.

I mention to him I saw 'check sum error' on the display, instantly he shouts "CRAP!"

I ask, Is that a good crap or a bad crap?

He says bad and tells me to call Fire-Lite tech support about it, as soon as I say 'check sum error' he says replace the panel.

Ps tools is a downloadable program for fire lite panels. Very user friendly.
That store looks as bad as the one in warwick Ri must have about 18 boosters in the front lobby.. the good thing about fire lite is availableness of parts so why not go to adi and get a new panel looks like a 9600... I'm kind of suprised they haven't gone with Bosch crap across the board Target and wally workday do, and I've seen them in a few shaws.

Great to hear, I am mostly concerned with my home brew cable. I hope the panel and PC connect.

.

We probably did that one as well.

It is but we don't supply parts on these calls.

I do not like Bosch either If I was spending a lot of time with the Bosch panels I would keep a keypad in the truck to add at the panel for troubleshooting.

That is what I hope to do. I went to the fire lite web site and they let you down load the software for doing it.

The panel is designed to be connected to the computer via RS-232 and a serial port.

My lap top does not have a serial port so I had to get a USB to serial port adapter and it may not work with the panel.
What did ADT tech support say about this???
