Well I have seem it done for the whole bathroom floor so the answer to your question is all the way to the tub/shower. Obviously GFCI protected through the thermostat.

 

Couldn't find anyhting either. Just stuff like not putting them under or over cabinets and the sort. I'd imagine that they can't be under towel racks either. Might depend on the shower stall aswell. Curtain covered vs. glass enclosure kinda thing; glass enclosures being alot less likely to have any sort of splashing water. Might just have to ask the inspector if and/or where they would allow it.

 

No rules prohibiting a baseboard heater right next to the tub.As long as the stat is a metre away.No G.F.I protection required. And a g.f.i. recept should be 1 metre but in no case be closer than 18" from inside edge of tub if bathroom very small.

 

Wondering what code cite would specify the location of the thermostat control. I'm working with a baseboard heater located within 6" of a shower pan that has a manual control knob. If that is closer than a metre is the unit out of code compliance?
