Now that's a good question. Ask your building code people.

 

1) will there be a real fire alarm ?

2) is the any common areas ?



for me no common area 2 seperate smoke systems ...

 

a lot of times in condos there's a FA for common areas/sprinkler flow and independant smoke alarms, but like others said, it's your ahj's opinion that matters

My understanding is that if there is a firewall between the 2 units, then they count as separate structures and each unit will have its own interconnect system. If there isn't a fire rated wall separating the 2 units, then they are supposed to all be interconnected and powered from the house panel.

 

Just did one in mass , two separate systems , and common area system with a heat detector off of common system with in 10 feet of bedrooms . This was in lynn

 

Mine said nothing about a firewall, I personally don't agree with it though.

I mean hotel rooms are all interconnected are they not?

I would want to know if my neighbor in the same building had a fire.

 

Have fun with that when your neighbor burns dinner and your alarm goes off for an hour.

 

Is there a separate panel for the building or common utility room? If so,tie into that panel so if one tenant moves out system will still be operational in empty unit as well
