Surface mount or flush mount ??

If surface I would use hard raised cover.,

flush mounted try to get pretty deep ringcover but watch the drywall or whatever thickness to make it flush.

 

If you're flushing mounting it in drywall, I would do what you suggested.

Support the box VERY well since a lot of force is used to insert and remove large plugs like that.

 

That part I do agree with that and it the same way with surface mounted too make sure you hit something good and soild.

Just realized I can go with a surface mounted welder receptacle instead. Much cheaper and less work.

 

Yeah, I like the surface mounted ones that can be used outdoors. I usually use the 14-50R though.

 

EV charger needs a disconnect as well but amirite in assuming that the receptacle technically is a disconnect right?

 

I don't know Canadian code on this. In the US, a 50A charger wouldn't require a disco. But when a disco is required, the cord&plug isn't counted as one.

FWIW, they make the outdoor surface mounted discos with breakers in them if you need a disco.

Or you can just say it's for a welder :whistling2:

 

Kind of ran into this today with mudrings and lousy drywallers.
The outlets were recessed way too much. Several of these things between outlets and box solved the issue.
