I am going to build an overhead 600 amp 3 phase service on a commercial building and I was planning on installing parrallel feeds in 500 Aluminum. The actual load will be well below 400 but the customer wants to have the ability to add another 200 amp breaker and panel to the main if it is needed in the future.

If my calculations are correct I should be well within my limits to use the 500 Al in parallel and connect to a 600 amp main then feed a new 400amp panel with a 400 amp breaker in the MDP. I would appreciate any insite or comments on this.

Thanks

Well I met with the power company and they suggested I use a 480amp meter base with two 4" overhead hubs, which I can buy from them. When I spoke with the supply company he made mention to the metering topic also but we didn't get to talk about it because he had to get some bids out and was supposed to call me back today... guess I will have to call him back tomorrow.

The 480 amp can { 600 amp class } is that the CT set up or direct bolt on ?

And I do know know if you are aware some POCO may want a cold sequince on the metering escpally with 480 volts system but if you are on 208Y120 or 240D120 you should be ok unless speced by POCO.

Merci.

What would be the best way to split up a 1600 amp service on a 3 tenant multi unit shell? I really do not want to spend the money on one 1600 disconnect! The engineer designed it to have 1- 1600 amp disconnect, and 2- 600 amp disconnects for tenant #1 and #2 and a 200 amp for tenant #3 ....with a 100 amp house panel ( 4 meters total). I'd like to split it up to reduce the cost ....I know tenant #1 will not use no more than 200 amps ...but tenant #2 will be a dental office, and these tenants spaces are 1300 sft so I know a 3ph 400 amp service would still be over kill! However the owner is still fixated on a 1600 amp service! Again...I'm looking for some pointers on splitting it all up and save some $$
