I am having a question on what an electrical standpipe is exactly. Could anyone post a picture??
thank you

406.9(D) Protection for Floor Receptacles.
Standpipes of floor receptacles shall allow floor-cleaning equipment to be operated without damage to receptacles

I agree a standpipe is a life safety component. The FD uses it to pump water into a building through the FDC and it provides hose connections for firefighters inside the building.

When I read your question I was thinking maybe the author of the question was referring to a riser, probably rigid, which would hold a box above a floor sufficient that floor cleaning and maintenance operations will not cause nasty stuff to get into the receptacle.

Ok that is what I was looking for. Its just the term standpipe brings to mind something up high, like the riser Mike mentioned. But my question was has anyone SEEN an install like this? The flush mounted floor assembly mounted on a piece of rigid(standpipe?) seems to be what the NEC is talking about. Thank you all for the inputs!! Really happy this forum exists. Regards all from TX

Got it, I was thinking it meant the upside down mast on a poke thru outlet, but I couldn't figure out how a floor cleaner would harm that. Unless.......... floor cleaner meaning the floor is tiled and the cleaner is a swabby using a mop and a bucket of water. Typical code garbage talk. It's easier to just write - floor outlets must be install so water cannot penetrate any part of the assembly during routine floor cleansing. But that's how snob code writers operate . Make it all gobledygook.

I think that floor sockets are very risky, especially if there are children in the house. As for what it looks like, you can just google it. In addition, I think that floor sockets are difficult to install, and they spoil the overall appearance of the room and the floor. I recently decided to replace my flooring with spc flooring, and my wife also wanted floor outlets. I managed to convince her because the coating is lovely, and we did not want this picture to be ruined. Also, the main reason was the children, everyone knows how much children can be curious, which is dangerous.
