yeah those bright orange sobs are the most aggressive too

The wasps and yellow jackets around here aren't really a big deal. We do have black and white bald faced hornets that are nasty though. They will literally pin you down in a truck and hit the windshield for 45 minutes trying to get to you.

i have been told first hand accounts of sitting in the car with only one window down,
shoot a hornet nest hanging in the tree with a .22
roll the window up immediately
watch a cpl smash themselves on the window
then drive off before they find a vent or something else to get inside the car

i have yet to find any thing in the panels besides wasps
the bright orange ones are the most aggressive
they are also the most common
they are the reason i want a REALLY good spray

Thanks for all the info guys. I ordered case of the rainbow stuff. Im also from the south and get calls from time to time that make me regret taking that call lol. Last week had an exterior panel on a pole that HO wanted a rv plug added to. It was old, and my fears were fulfilled when I removed the cover. But I was ready, hosed em down quick and was able to get most of them. Again all because some knuckle head left a KO open on the bottom. I always seal every little hole on any work I do. Including 1/4 holes on any nema 3R equipment. Figured one day someone will return the favor to me hopefully

I've never seen an orange wasp. We just have the black and yellow paper wasps.
years ago when i was a kid in central east texas, i almost never saw one that was completely bright orange (they are also slightly larger than any of the others)
what i commonly saw was yellow and brown stripes (guinea wasp, slightly smaller than most), black and yellow (hornets, normal size), and occasionally black with an orange brown butt (no name, normal size) all of those would leave you alone if you left them alone, even if i attacked them, i seldom got bit

now im in north central louisiana, and i dont recall any guinea wasps, almost never black and orange
but the bright orange ones are Very common, and rather aggresive, just standing still close to the nest will get you bit,

you will have an ongoing battle if you attack the nest, they will be gone for several minutes, you go back to work for another min or so
there went a dive bomber/kamikaze that just missed you because thankfully you moved at the last min ,, or else he hit my hat or something else

its been about 10 yrs since i was last bit. it was on the middle of my finger, in one hour my hand and wrist were swollen
very uncomfortable but i could work
swelling went down about 3 hrs after the sting

im afraid another sting at my age might put me in the ER

i do the same, almost no one else, HO especially does not

i got two cans of the rainbow, but it is 0.1% tetramethrin

post #48 "Stomp" has 0.2% tetramethrin,, that will be the next i buy

i am certain that the tetramethrin is what gets em fastest, everything i have tried that does not work, doesnt have it, or not enough of it

i think it would be prudent to pay attention to how much of this stuff gets on us when we use it, maybe wash hands or something, poison that strong will probably affect us

Dive Bomber/Kamikaze.......🤣🤣🤣🤣 very true, has happened to me a few times but they didn't miss.Hurts like hell on the top of the head and swells it up enough not to wanna wear a hat for a day.If I can see one coming I can swat him down before getting me but like you said not always the case.Hit em with the Stomp and they ain't flying nowhere.I still keep Benadryl on the truck just in case.

i just had two hit the top of my hat inside of one second yesterday. one flew on by and made me start running
came back with the spray and got two on the nest, two more later
it was at my house, i dont know how long they had been there but it was the first time i had walked directly under them

i immediately searched all over the outside of the house looking for more, none found thankfully

the rainbow stuff i bought is better than raid but not as good as i have had years ago
stomp is top of the list now

I have those around my yard. I have not found the nest. One will come under the car while you are working there and fly without moving and stare at you. I say "hi, gotta go, see you" and roll out from under for a while until it leaves. It may just be curious about mechanical work, but why take chances!

it would drop them dead in the air
but then they changed the recipe, and now mediocre at best
I need a better spray !!
I used to have 200 beehives. All these buggers generally act the same UNLESS we are discussing Africanized bees in well established colonies and some more rare aggressive wasps such as I found in Mexico one time. Those I am.....more cautious about.

First off, when the hive itself is gone, they have NOTHING to defend. SO if it is a smaller wasp hive I just take a long thin stick and wipe the hive to the ground, then step on it and step away for a few minutes. Any wasps that come back can tell instantly that their home is gone and they will generally fly around confused then leave. Most wasps species have secondary nests anyway. They have nothing to protect so they generally do not try and protect. Venom is expensive and for bees using it against mammals is death, very expensive. Why defend what is not there?

What remains is some smell and pheromones that can attract new hives. So use any really good insecticide that you can actually smell and coat the area the hive was attached before you removed it. Once you seal the cabinet properly it will no longer be an issue.

Now, with regard to what drops them INSTANTLY, extracts from some flowers and from some Amazonian plants called Pyrethrins and Rotenone. They are expensive and there are artificial ones available I know nothing regarding their efficacy.

They are/were available BOTH in the same container and I think up to 10% or so (pyrethrins knocks them down but does not kill, Rotenone kills them). A VERY small amount is used with a carrier (generally water). You can use a spray bottle to spray them (or a garden sprayer if it is a large hive) and they will literally DROP from the air. The issue is that the half life is only 24 hours so do NOT mix more than you will use. I use a heavier mix than label. It is also organic so no one can complain even If they have an organic garden nearby it is safe.

When using Rotenone remember it is EXREMELY TOXIC to fish. IN the Amazon the indigenous people pounded plants that contained rotenone to kill fish in streams and rivers. They floated up and were gathered. If you can kill fish by pounding the plant in water it is very toxic to the fish!
